July 31, 2014

Holland America has been transporting passengers for over 130 years and is one of the most respected cruise lines in the world.

This venerable line offers all the modern amenities with a fleet of 15 appropriately Dutch named ships that visit all 7 continents.

The ships are mid-size and offer cruisers one of the best guests to staff rations on the seas.

They also offer some of the most spacious accommodations and you will really appreciate the additional comfort. Providing the “Signature of Excellence” commitment has brought the cruise experience on Holland America to a whole new level.

All cruises offer “As You Wish” dining that allows you to choose between luxurious 5 course dining in the Main Dining Room with either pre-set or flex times, sophisticated dining in the Pinnacle Grill, casual dining at the Lido Restaurant as well as in room service and a variety of other dining options.

You can also indulge in afternoon tea on one day during your cruise. Mariner Society offers special deals for cruisers who start collecting cruise day credits from your very first day on board, the longer and more often you cruise, the more additional benefits you will be eligible for (Marty and I have earned 3 star Mariner status, over 100 days!)

Cruise Radio. The leader in bringing cruise news, reviews and interviews to all

July 17, 2014

Doug

Over 5 years ago I met Doug Parker of Cruise Radio.

We were both working together at a radio station here in Jacksonville and he asked me to be a guest on his new show, Cruise Radio.

He was excited about merging his love of radio and combining it with his passion for cruising.

It’s turned out to be a #winning combination.

Cruise Radio was born in 2009 and it’s been a rocket ship ever since.

Doug has broadcast from over 20 ships, interviewed the top leaders in the cruise industry and has his finger on the pulse of all things cruise.

Doug brings all this to his audience each and every week in both an informative and entertaining presentation.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Cruise Radio, check it out at http://www.cruiseradio.net

You’ll be addicted.

Hope you have a nice weekend and get out there and cruise.

Thanks Carnival!

July 8, 2014

I just received word that Carnival is making cruising more enjoyable!

As I have mentioned previously, my wife Marty is a lung cancer survivor.

She had her entire left lung removed 12 years ago.

Marty is always concerned that if we get a balcony, she will smell cigarette smoke from other cabins.

Today Carnival made a major decision about smoking on their ships.

All staterooms and suites, inclusive of the balconies, will be an entirely smoke-free environment on Carnival ships. This change is consistent with the policy of most major cruise lines and will be implemented on October 9, 2014, or any new voyage departing thereafter.

Smoking will continue to be allowed in designated exterior open deck areas, as well as in the night club, and in certain areas within the casino and casino bar. (Boo!)

Guests who smoke in their staterooms or on their balconies will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

On another note, the gratuity guidelines on Carnival will be increasing from $11.50 to $12.00 per person per day with voyages departing October 9, 2014, and onward. Guests who have pre-paid their gratuities as of July 7, 2014, will not be affected by this change.

While gratuities are automatically added to guest’s onboard Sail & Sign account as a convenience, tipping is always at their discretion. They can feel free to adjust, up or down, as they please by visiting Guest Services.

Marty and I are happy that Carnival is taking this step to a more smoke-free vacation environment and hope they will continue that effort in the future.

Independence Day and Living Life

July 3, 2014

As the 4th of July is upon us, I wanted to share a few thoughts.

As a Navy veteran, I’m keenly aware of the price of freedom, and what we need to do to maintain our freedom.

Americans need to be involved in the political process and support those elected officials that stand with our beliefs. Those who complain and don’t vote just don’t have skin in the game. It’s easy to complain.

I’m so glad that my family lives in the greatest country on earth.

We enjoy freedoms that many inhabitants of our planet only dream about!

12 years ago when my wife Marty was diagnosed with lung cancer, my whole life changed.

Mart

I realized that everyone has a limited number of days and we should have an attitude of gratefulness while at the same time, enjoying every moment.

Yeah, I still work a “job”, but I’ve made it a priority to spend time with Marty (mostly on cruises).

us

A cruise vacation is a total escape from the everyday rat race.

No cooking, no cleaning, waking up in a different port and exploring God’s creation.

So this 4th of July, join me in being thankful for our great nation, be thankful for family and friends, and please take time out to enjoy life.

We only have today.

San Juan
